Advice vs Advise
If you ever get stuck in any tough situation and you’ve to make a decision out of it then whom you will ask? A person who has faced the same problem or a person who has never faced something like your situation but is older than you and has life experience? Undoubtedly you will pay attention to the person who has passed the same situation. You will implement their suggestions and it seems likely to benefit you. Now, you should thank them for giving you -advice or advise?
Now lets see what is the difference between πππ«πππ and πππ«ππ¨π and why people get confused between them? Because βadviceβ and βadviseβ are wordsβ―that sound alike or similar, they are often confused.
Advice : as a noun
Advice is a noun that means a suggestion about what you should do. The “C” of advice sounds like “S“. In simple words we can say “An opinion that you give somebody about what he/she should do”. It is an uncountable noun so we often use ‘piece’ to say ‘a piece of advice’.
Examples of advice:
- She’s been giving him some expert ad about investing.
- I decided to follow your advice and take a vacation.
- The night my mother died, Eden gave me advice I’ve never forgotten.
- In my perplexity I did not know whose aid and advice to seek.
Advise : as a verb
Advise is a verb that means to suggest what should be done, to recommend, or to give information to someone. The S of advise sounds like a Z. To advise is to suggest what should be done, to recommend, or to give information to someone. In other words, to advise means to give advice.
The main difference between βadviceβ and βadviseβ is this: advice is a thing (a noun), advise is an action (a verb). They cannot be used interchangeably.
Let’s understand where to use advice and advise by some examples:
Example of advise:
- The lawyer advised the client not to sign anything that she did not read first.
- My mother always advised me to bring a jacket to the movie theater because the air conditioning can be chilly.

- Mr. Faiz bids Professor Snape good day, and advises him to wash his hair, the slimeball.
